Speech Perception, Production and Bilingualism (SPPB)

The SPPB is a research group from the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) and is linked to the Center for Brain and Cognition (CBC).  It is currently working on speech perception and the processes involved in production, with special emphasis on the bilingual population. More specifically, the group is interested in studying the general bases of language processing and the effect of mother-tongue exposure on the development of linguistic abilities within this processing. Comparative analyses of monolingual and bilingual (Spanish/Catalan) subjects enable in-depth investigation of the specific characteristics of language processing in bilingual speakers, as well as in subjects with varying degrees of exposure to a second language. The research conducted in the group´s laboratory covers a wide eriod from childhood to adulthood, and uses methodologies based on both behavioural analysis and physiological measurements.
